Delegation versus Abdication

Delegation does not mean abdication. If you find out too late that something has gone off the rails, it is very likely you abdicated. In other words - you badly managed the resources you have.

And this doesn’t mean micro manage people to death.

Define the outcome to be achieved and how you want to be informed incrementally on the path to that achievement. And get out of the way.

The intervals between updates should never be so long as to catch anyone off guard if the outcome is missed. If the risk is high up the reporting cadence so that you can correct, iterate, and if necessary, abandon, quickly and early.

Start With Me

To accomplish what you want you have to direct of the means at your disposal to where you want to go.

Your sphere of influence lessens the further you move out from you. The centre.

And by reverse thinking, your sphere of influence is greatest at you, the centre point.

To accomplish what you want focus on you, first. The biggest lever with the most return. Then consider every one and every thing else.

It all starts with you, and surprisingly often ends there.
