What Game Are You Playing?

Play the end game. Not this week’s tactics to avoid or quash the current crisis, the screaming urgency, whatever it may be. Wean yourself off of the adrenaline addiction and settle in for the slow drip satisfaction of the long game. Not very exciting, no quick rush of dopamine, but when you look back it is pretty clear just how far you have come.

Know the end result, the result that creates the next opportunity, and do that work. And with the time that is left, put out the fires. And if you do the work that really matters pretty soon you will find that the screams of fire! are rarely if ever heard.

Make it Happen

To make it happen we need to be clear for ourselves, and our team, why it must happen. What problem will be solved by doing this?

And then for the leaders, who are the guides, not the heroes, what’s the plan to get there? What will “there” look like? What is the picture of success?

Share the plan, share the picture, train the team, create multipliers, not control gates and throttles.

Celebrate, and repeat.
